Why a protein challenge?

This is the time of year for building the foundations for next season - our nutrition, our recovery, our mindset and more, so that we can reap the rewards in races next year.

It's one of the ten steps I take clients through to ensure they're ready to line up on race day.

And it's one of the easiest wins to bank - A simple step with lasting impacts.

Not only through the benefits to our body and training, but by learning the power of working with our mind to build solid foundations.

Together we will build the lasting habits to achieve our goals and the importance of believing in ourselves.

Why protein matters:

It's the key building block of our bodies. When we train we break our bodies down - protein helps us rebuild so we get stronger and fitter from training.

We feel better when we eat more of it. It fills us up and helps keep our energy steadier through the day, heading off those mid-morning or afternoon slumps.

Protein helps protect our muscles and bones, keeping us more resilient as we age and as menopause means our muscles and bones become more vulnerable.

And you'll cross something off the to-do list! Most women I speak know they need more protein, but it's always a "next week" job - making it something else to worry about. Let's sort that right now!

Challenge kicks off in:

What you'll get in Protein Week:

A free mini Masterclass on Friday 9th at midday on

1) My 10 Steps to Line up Ready for races next year and how protein fits into that.

2) How much protein you need and how to increase it

3) How to build the habits to make it easy.

(recording sent to all those who sign up)

Manageable steps and top tips, not a diet overhaul

You set your own targets - no leaderboards, no "failing," it's all about what's right for you

A free cheat sheet on how to increase your protein (yes, even if you're vegan or veggie)

Regular check-ins (Zoom and WhatsApp - both optional) to support you and keep you on track

A prize draw for everyone taking part in the week

It's so easy to put off increasing your protein intake "until tomorrow".

But we all know, tomorrow never comes. So why not take this opportunity to cross it firmly off the to-do list, to boost your training impact, and help maintain steady energy through the day.

"Able to take on longer challenges"

“Increasing my protein intake has helped keep me feeling fuller for longer.

And it's definitely made me feel more recovered and able to take on longer challenges”

Marissa, York

"I'm not snacking or feeling hungry"

Since I started eating more protein I'm not snacking so much or feeling hungry.

It's one of those things you're told all the time, but now I've done it, I've felt the benefits! It's really true!

Becca, Leeds

Hi! I'm Lucy

I’m the UK’s first Mental Health & Exercise Triathlon Coach.

I work with women who have big race goals but are doubting whether they can achieve them. I help them build their training and confidence so they can smash their goals, as well as building their health and happiness along the way.

I offer a range of options including a Membership for female runners and triathletes as well as 1:1 triathlon coaching and personalised online strength and conditioning.

My coaching goes far beyond the plan itself – covering nutrition, mindset, race planning, stress management injury avoidance and more – so you feel stronger in both body and mind.

I am a qualified Triathlon Coach (BTF level 3), Personal Trainer, Mental Health & Exercise Coach and Transformative Life Coach, and have raced at all levels from age group and ultra to Ironman World Champs qualifier.

I draw on all these areas of expertise to help you get the most from your training and life.

Your questions answered

Sounds like a great idea but I don't have time right now, can I do it another time?

If you sign up you'll get the recording, but I'm deliberately only leaving it up for a few days. We all know what happens otherwise - it gets filed away for "when I have time," and that moment never quite comes. Keeping it short will help you actually get it done, rather than adding one more thing to the to-do list.

Will the challenge run again?

I don't know - it depends how this one goes! But don't wait for next time. This is the perfect window - we're back into real life after summer, but still ahead of the Christmas chaos. Build the habit now, and you’ve already sorted one of my 10 Steps to Line Up Ready, and set yourself up to support your training as it builds up next year.

How long will it take to take part in the challenge?

We're kicking things off with a free mini masterclass on Friday 9th at midday, where I'll explain more about the challenge and why it matters. You'll get the recording if you sign up, but you'll need to watch it by Sunday 11th.

There's a wrap-up call the following Friday at midday.

And there are live calls and support via a WhatsApp group throughout the week to help you towards your challenge goals – these are all optional, there to help you if you have questions or hit a snag. If you’re sailing through then there's no need to join.

And there's the time to actually do the challenge yourself, which will vary, but probably includes at least one shop visit and a few extra minutes each day.

I've got [another commitment] on this week, so I won't be able to take part every day - should I still join?

Yes, definitely! You'll still get benefits even if you only join for a day - but as with any new habit, the more you can do, the more you'll benefit.

I'm vegan/veggie/only eat non-processed food/don't eat dairy - can I still do the challenge?

Yes! I won't lie, it can make it a bit trickier, but that's all the more reason to join. Unless you're already quite focused on protein, you may well be significantly below your recommended intake, so you'll get even more benefit from the focus and the support.

Are you going to try and sell me a protein supplement?

God no! It's up to you how you meet the challenge. I'll give you ideas, but I won't tell you what you should eat - it's got to work for you and your life. For some people that'll include shakes or other protein "convenience food." For others it'll be a food-first approach.

I don’t think this applies to me, I’m not an athlete, I’m just dabbling in this.

This is exactly who it's for. You don't need to be racing, training seriously, or even calling yourself "sporty" to benefit from getting your protein sorted. As all my clients, from front to the back of the pack keep telling me, it’s made just as much difference for them in energy, mood and how they feel day to day as it has for their performance.
